Hello! We had a great and challenging time 2013, and want to thank you for all your support and contributions as volunteers and as friends.
You can read a report of what we have done here. Our big highlights of the last few months of 2013 were:
Seeing a new people’s kitchen emerge at Max Roach One O’Clock club
We ran 4 cooking sessions with a group of parents and their children in Max Roach One O’Clock club, in Loughborough Estate last summer. This inspired the group to set up their own food waste reduction project, and they ran their first cook up back in December. It feels amazing to see the people’s kitchen idea reaching new people and being re-shaped to fit loads of different settings, considering it was first set up in a Dalston club!
Being awarded funding by the Design Council for the Knee High Challenge
We also brought our mobile kitchen to a number of children’s centres in Stockwell to work with a group of migrant parents. In partnership with Stockwell Partnership, we applied to the Knee High challenge to take this forward. We developed an idea called Cook & Meet, which is about using the people’s kitchen format but focussing on encouraging migrant parents to grow their local networks of support. And we got through! This means we are getting some amazing support from the Design Council to develop the Cook & Meet project, and we are very much looking forward to working on this.
All the best for now!
